What A Crazy Two Days

Funny story.  I was out at the farm the other day helping dad tear down the walls in our feed room.  He swore up and down that the walls are infested with rats and the only way to remedy the problem is to tear the walls down so they have nowhere to nest.  Anything that involves destruction with a hammer and crowbar and I'm in.  We had a blast pulling the walls down, it was some quality time together.  We didn't find a single rat either. While out at the farm, I went to go see our male goat, BB.  Mom and dad call him Mr. Mister, but I call him BB, which is short for Blue Balls.  See, he is the only buck at our farm and we have a few does.  We keep them separated so they can't mate, hence the name Blue Balls.  Well, I was in his pen, because he is very friendly, playing with him and petting him.  Dad sees me and says, "Make sure he doesn't try and mount you."  I just laugh at him and say that we are just playing around.  Not ...

A Baby...But Not A Baby, Baby

Meet Obadiah Last night at work, I get a text from my parents: "Baby alpaca is here!"  Well, I just had to get up this morning and go see him.  He's just the cutest little thing ever. I sent Bumpers a text and gave her the news: "I'm a daddy!"  Her reply, "A daddy to what?"  Me, "To a baby, duh."  Her, "A baby, baby?"  Haha, I thought all babies were babies.  Learn something new every day. I spent a little while out there this morning and wasn't really able to get too close to him.  Both his momma and the other female were pretty wary about my presence and kept him at a safe distance.  I was able to get some good photos, albeit from a distance.  The ones I have posted now are from my cell phone so please forgive the shoddy quality.  Proper photos will soon follow and I'm sure my parents will have them up on Facebook, Twitter and on the Barnyard website. Just before I left the farm, Laura called me.  I was so th...

A Romp in the Hay

We spent nearly thirty minutes in the hay loft this evening.  I don't usually have the stamina to last that long but I was determined not to disappoint again by pulling out early.  I pushed, I pulled, I lifted and shifted and maneuvered.  I was finding ways to fill that space that no one had ever done before.  I got creative, and it paid off...big time.  By the time we were done, I was exhausted, hot, sweaty, covered in hay from head to toes and satisfied.  Very, VERY satisfied.  It's hard not to feel satisfied after you unload 100 bales of hay into a barn.  Come on, what did you think I was talking about?  Get your mind out of the gutter. My day off from work was not quite as productive as I hoped it would be.  I had to drive down to Beaufort this morning, which was not fun because the traffic was just insane.  Then I spent a while helping my mom update the Barnyard website with new information about our fresh pork for sale and ...

Today I Fell In Love

That's right, I'm not ashamed to admit it.  I'm in love.  I want to get on top of a mountain and shout it to the entire world!  I want to vandalize the side of a million year old rock in a national park.  I want to spray paint it on the side of a moving train or on an overpass.  I want to buy the rights to a star in the sky and name it after her.  I want to get extremely drunk and have her name tattooed onto a very private part of my body.  I love you Stacy! For those of you that regularly read this blog, all three of you, then you know that Stacy is a baby alpaca.  Bumpers sent me this cute photo of Stacy today to update me on how well she was doing.  Since I pretty much saved Stacy's life , Bumpers owes me at least that much.  My afternoon was pretty much wide open, so I asked if I could come see her.  She was hesitant because it wasn't my week to see Stacy...I have every third week of the month plus holidays and two weeks of su...

Love This

Today was a busy day for me, which is good.  Woke up and went out to the farm this morning to feed and let the animals out.  That was kind of fun.  Got to play around with my little buddy some...he's not so little any more.  He's gotta be close to 300 pounds by now.  It's cool because I can be rough with him and it won't hurt him.  He is definitely not worried about hurting me.  TJ used my back to get his rub on for a good five minutes.  Love that old fart.  The triplets (baby piggies) let met pet them today without spazing out.  Sweet potato tried to run me over to get out the field with the goats.  Sadly, I found one of our baby turkeys dead in the straw.  Poor little guy. After I got home from the barn, dad got in from work.  He took an early day to get ready for a party out at the farm this evening.  We had a great Bojangles lunch and watched Young Frankenstein together.  Classic.  Then it was off to t...

Why Did I Even Post This?

Here is a little something for Throw Back Thursday March 5, 2008 - Kodak Gold 200 film Asleep at the Spool I want to type tonight, I really do.  I've actually sat here for over an hour just thinking about whether or not I should type.  Being ignored by someone you adore is not easy.  Being called a Jack Hole is not easy.  That's what someone called me, and it stung.  Usually that would make me violently angry, but she didn't know what that meant so I shouldn't be angry about it.  But being hurt over it, that I can't help. Today, she ignored me.  No messages about blogging or asking me if I was going to type, she posted and didn't even say, no reply to the one text I sent her today of some brand new baby bunnies that were just born.  Complete silence.  Over what, because I upset her by parking in two spaces at work?  For apologizing about it?  Because she wrote something to sucker punch me knowing full well that I would rea...

It's A "What Up?" Wednesday

What up?  It's Wednesday...let's hear it for Odin, the paganistic god of the Danes for whom this day is named.  Or if that offends you, let's here it for the Geico camel who turned Hump Day into an international sensation. Bumpers didn't post last night...just throwing that out there for no particular reason.  I just hope she has a good excuse and that's all I'm saying on the subject. Except, I don't think it's fair that she guilts me into posting every night, even when I don't feel like it or if I don't have anything to say and then she just up and skips without running it by me... Can someone please explain how a "cashless ATM" works?  Seems hypocritical. Cashless ATM? The password today was "pickles"...again.  I gotta remember to change that dang password before everyone finds out and tries to use it.  Work was rather fun today.  I like Wednesdays because I'm doing mostly prep work by my lonesome.  I also ge...

Jumbo Sized Post

Okay, so tonight is the night of nights.  It's THE night...the night where I catch you up.  Most of this will be new, some of it might be leftovers reheated for you to gag down once again.  But hey, this is what you signed up for. Ever see an alpaca in the nude? We have naked alpacas.  Those poor things.  There are these people who come to the states once a year to shear sheep, alpacas, and I'm sure various other woolly animals.  So, since we are proud owners of alpacas (Al Pocalypse and Al Paccino), my parents had these people over to the farm to give the good old buzz cut...the "zero against the grain", as it is called in some places.  A Navajo warrior couldn't have scalped these guys in any finer fashion.  I was actually at home when I got the call that they were about to start.  I had to wrap up some things I was involved in and grab my camera but by the time I made it out to the farm, they were already packing up to leave.  Sa...
